Wanted: A Mature Dragon Tree in Marmion

Not every job starts with a problem that needs fixing. Sometimes a homeowner just knows exactly what they want — and needs someone with the right skills and connections to make it happen.

That was the case in Marmion in March 2026. The client had his heart set on a mature dragon tree (Dracaena draco) at the front of his property. Dragon trees are slow-growing, striking in appearance, and not easy to come by at any meaningful size. Buying one small and waiting decades was not the plan.

The Solution: Find One That Needed a New Home

Rather than sourcing a nursery specimen, Green Surgery did what they do best — they solved the problem practically. The team located another homeowner who was looking to remove their own mature dragon tree. A deal was struck between the two parties, and Green Surgery handled the rest.

What the Transplant Involved

Moving a mature tree is a serious undertaking. Dragon trees have a unique root structure and do not respond well to rough handling. The Green Surgery team planned and carried out the transplant carefully — extracting the tree from its original location without compromising the root ball, transporting it safely, and establishing it in its new home at the front of the Marmion property.

Getting a mature specimen into the ground successfully takes experience. Planting depth, soil preparation, post-transplant watering and support all play a role in whether the tree takes or goes into shock.

The Result

A very satisfied client with exactly the tree he wanted, in exactly the spot he had in mind — mature, established, and ready to become a feature of the property for decades to come.
